Call for Applications to Host the ESEH Conference 2027

  • by

The European Society for Environmental History (ESEH) invites proposals to host the biennial conference of the Society in 2027. Host institution(s) will be responsible for the organisation and running of the conference. It/They will work closely with the Programme Committee and the ESEH Board to design the conference.

Past organisers have found hosting the conference a rewarding experience that raises the profile of their institutions. Conference organisation offers an opportunity to develop new relationships and professional skills, and to bring a thriving community of international scholars to your region. We encourage ideas to make the conference as inclusive, accessible and welcoming as possible, to continue the series of memorable ESEH events that have built our community and offered an outlet for our scholarship.

Crucial points for the evaluation will be:

• the strength of your local group and the network of the regional institutions involved;
• indication of the support of your institution (formal letter of support is helpful);
• a rough estimation of costs and possibility to attract grants (if applicable);
• the possibility and probability of gaining additional funds;
• the availability and quality of facilities and services;
• the impact of the conference on your country and the wider region.
• The proposal should be no more than 5000 words long.

For detailed information, please see the guidelines for composing the proposal.

A proposal including an estimated budget and any accompanying materials (letters of support, details on the venue, etc.) must be sent by email to the Conference Venue Selection Committee (christian.rohr@unibe.ch) by 31.03.2025.

Do not hesitate to contact the Conference Venue Selection Committee with queries. Please also contact us if you would like to host the conference, but your resources are limited or if you would like to co-host the conference with other institutions in your region.
