CFP: 4th Slovak-Czech historical-geographical conference: Matthias Bel and his contemporaries: works, texts and contexts

The work of M. Bel Notitia Hungariae Novae historico-geographica (hereinafter referred to as Notitia) represents a patriotic synthesis, more precisely the historical topography of Hungary (in a broader sense also of Slovakia) of the Baroque period. This specific feature of Bel’s work, which was published between the years 1735 and 1742, is important for various fields of humanities and natural and social sciences. Researchers in Slovakia or abroad have dealt with the life and work of this representative of the Enlightenment from different points of view. The main focus of the research have been Bel’s publishing activities, pedagogical and religious activities and probes to selected works of this author.

Key topic of the conference is a perspective of historical-geographical and other (e.g. philological, ethnological or cultural-geographical) aspects of Notitia. Contributions about the work of Bel’s collaborators (e.g. S. Mikovíni) or on patterns and pendants of historical topographies in Hungary (A. Bonfini, S. Timon) and abroad (B. Balbín, M. Vogt, J. Schaller and others) are also welcomed. You can find our call For Papers HERE and registration HERE
