Position Statement
The Australian Research Council Centre of Excellence for Coral Reef Studies is an internationally renowned research centre encompassing >200 researchers and graduate students, with ongoing research projects in 30 countries. We are seeking an early to mid-career postdoctoral Research Fellow for Research Program 5 Resilience of linked Social-Ecological Systems.
The objective of the position is to reconstruct the environmental, social and economic history of catchments and coral reefs.
The appointee will have substantial freedom to forge a research program that suits her or his interests and abilities and to collaborate with leading coral reef researchers.
The position will be based in Townsville. This is a full-time research only position and the successful applicant must have a PhD with an exceptional track record for their stage of career. Previous experience in coral reefs is not essential.
Duties and Accountabilities
- Conduct research independently and as part of a team that contributes to the achievement of the aims of the ARC Centre of Excellence, particularly Program 5: Resilience of linked social ecological systems;
- contribute to improving understanding of the fellowship research area;
- work independently and collaborate with Centre staff and end-users to apply skills to research problems in the study of the social-ecological systems;
- publish research in high quality journals;
- co-supervise graduate students, if appropriate.
Key Selection Criteria
- PhD in related discipline;
- strong publication record for stage of career;
- evidence of research ability in one or more discipline(s) relevant to the fellowship research area;
- established links (national and international) with appropriate research organisations and personnel;
- demonstrated effective interpersonal and communication skills.

Employment Type
Appointments will be full-time for a fixed term (research only) of three years subject to a probationary period.
Salary
Academic Level B: $79,837 – $94,203* per annum
Academic Level A: $71,027 – $76,005* per annum
* depending on qualifications and experience
