Anshelm, Jonas, Förnuftets brytpunkt: Om teknikkritiken i P C Jersilds författarskap, Ph.D. Univ. of Linköping, Stockholm: Bonnier, 1990 Abstract: English title: The Refraction of Reason: Technology Criticism in the work of P C Jersild
Abstract:
P C Jersild is a Swedish author who has dedicated his work to the
ivestigation of morality in the technological society. The analysis of
Jersild's work is divided into two sections. The first of these has the
character of a general survey. The changing course of Jersild's
authorship are studied in relation to the changing face of public
debate. The second part of the thesis is a thematic study on several
essential issues in Jersild's discussions on technology. It is shown in
this thesis that Jersild critically assesses modern technology as both
abstract rationality and concrete lived experience. His work can be
seen as a critical investigation of those areas of modern society where
the "modern project" has gone astray; where a coginitive-instrumental
rationality has been allowed to suppress moral-practical reason. In
spite of this criticism it can however be asserted that Jersild's work
is an attempt to establish a sensible moral argumentation capable of
rescuring the "modern project" from self-inflicted ruin. Keywords: technology criticism, swedish litterature, rationality

Sandell, Klas, 'Ecostrategies in Theory and Practice: Farmer's Perspective on Water, Nutrients and Sustainability in Low-resource Agriculture in the Dry Zone of Sri Lanka', Ph.D. Univ. of Linköping, 1988 Abstract: Abstract: The need for a sustainable man-nature relationship has long been a neglected aspect of development theory. The increasing awareness of this has led to a search for development strategies alternative to conventional industrial growth. The conceptural framework concerning man's relation to nature is, however, unclear. This study identifies three main types of views and practical utilizations of natural recources (ecostrategies): domination, active adaptation and passive adaptation. These ecostrategies, as a framework, were elaborated upon by investigating farmers's views and practices concerning rainfall and nutrients in agriculture, in five villages in Sri Lanka. naturresurserna under det industriella genombrottet', Ph.D. Univ. of
Umeå, 1988 Abstract: English title: Land of the Future: The Debate on Norrland and Its Natural Resources at the Time of the Industrial Breakthrough
Abstract:
The starting point of this dissertation is the technical and social
process generally known as modernization, which in the case of Sweden
roughly coincides with the industrial breakthrough of the period
1870-1920. More precisely, the modernization process in Norrland, the
northernmost twothirds of Sweden, makes up the basis for this study.
Around the turn of the century, a hasty industrializing took place
there, mainly within the raw materials-based businesses, such as the
lumber industry and mining. As well, peat harvesting and largescale
exploitation of the great rivers for electrical energy began. Within a
few decades Norrland changed from a rather unimportant outpost into an
area of enormous national economic significance. The present work
analyzes the modernization of Norrland by considering the views of the
future of Norrland and Sweden, and by looking at the idea debate on
modernization and its consequences. Keywords: natural recources, industrialization, history, Sweden

Abstract:
This book investigates the social and scientific conditions that makes
it possible to discover environmental problems and take appropriate
actions, and it also discusses the results of these actions and what
can be learned from situations were society has failed in their
actions. It analyses the different actors that are involved when
environmental problems are discovered, and their different roles in the
process of learning how to prevent environmental problems. Keywords: environmental problems
